Weapon Expansion (spoilers)

Hi, I recently discovered Astro Loop on F-Droid and I have been having a blast with it. Well done!

I have found Kraken, who provides Weapon Expansion. It reads: gain a 5th slot, loose a passive. What exactly are slots and passives? I noticed Weapon Expansion sits in one of the eight squares in the top left corner, so I assume those are passives. But then as to what slots are, I am at a loss.

Thanks! You can have four weapons and four passives equipped at the same time. Weapons are unlocked through ships, and passives are unlocked through new pilots. Kraken's passive allows you to have five weapons equipped, at the cost of having only three passives.
