I am trying to update my Ubuntu 20.04 using sudo apt update and saw the following error messages

E: The repository 'https://nvidia.github.io/libnvidia-container/stable/ubuntu18.04/amd64  Release' does not have a Release file.
N: Updating from such a repository can't be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default.
N: See apt-secure(8) manpage for repository creation and user configuration details.

I have changed .list to
deb [signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/nvidia-container-toolkit-keyring.gpg] https://nvidia.github.io/libnvidia-container/stable/ubuntu18.04/$(ARCH) / #deb [signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/nvidia-container-toolkit-keyring.gpg] https://nvidia.github.io/libnvidia-container/experimental/deb/$(ARCH) /

but it still doesn't work

The simplest starting point would be to remove any /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*.list files that refer to nvidia.github.io and then follow the instructions here: https://docs.nvidia.com/datacenter/cloud-native/container-toolkit/latest/install-guide.html#installing-with-apt

to create the new files.

If this also fails we can look into why this is.

The issue is not with the sources.list but with the server actually not providing a Release file as the message states. plzfix

We provide an InRelease file instead of a Releases file.

The correct solution is to remove the bad repository file and add the correct one by following the official installation guide.

To fix this:

1. Remove any existing nvidia-container-toolkit or nvidia-docker list files:

sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/nvidia-container-toolkit.list
sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/nvidia-docker.list

Then follow the instructions at https://docs.nvidia.com/datacenter/cloud-native/container-toolkit/latest/install-guide.html
