Posting my finds here to keep track of the information found

Test Case: System-Wide GLFW

Attempting to explicitly force LWJGL to load the system-wide GLFW library via the following JVM argument resulted in a crash:

-Dorg.lwjgl.glfw.libname=/usr/lib/libglfw.so -> led to a crash

Known Search Paths (Linux / macOS)

The native library loader will scan these common directories to locate the system binaries

/usr/lib
/usr/lib64
/usr/local/lib
/lib
/lib64
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu
/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu
/opt/homebrew/lib

(Windows paths: No idea)

Target Filenames by Platform

Linux: libglfw.so, libglfw.so.3

macOS: libglfw.dylib

Windows: glfw3.dll

Additional notes

• Not sure about sandboxed environment like flatpaks or in an environment like nix-os there might be extra edge cases
