Release check stalls when no internet connection is available

We are trying to run Kathara in a environmnet with no internet access after the initial install. While Kathara works it is incredibly slow to start any commands taking a number of mintues e.g kathara lclean takes around 3-5mins to run.

From looking at network traffic it seesm that Kathara is trying to get to Github when a command is started and the inabilty to reach this desination is what is causing delays before the command is eventually run.

Is this the deafult behaviour and does anyone have any ideas how this delay can be removed when running with no internet connectivity, we cant give direct internet access to the machines otherwse we would just do that?

1. Which version of Kathará are you using?
2. On which operating system are you running it?
3. Could you paste the output of the kathara check command?

Here is the inforation an requested:

• Current version: 3.8.0
• OS: Ubuntu 24.04.03 LTS

Also from typing the check command it took 2minutes 18seconds before the System check info started to appear.
To note we have a proxy server that give access to docker images hence why this can download but genral internet access is disabled.

I’ve identified the problem.

Kathará checks for new releases once per week. To do this, it stores a timestamp of the last check and compares it with the current time. If the difference is greater than a week, it attempts to fetch release information from GitHub. However, if this check occurs when no internet connection is available, the code stalls on the GitHub request.

We will fix this behavior by at least adding the option to disable the check.

In the meantime, you can apply the following workaround:

1. Open the kathara.conf file.

   • On Unix systems: ~/.config/kathara.conf
   • On Windows: C:\Users\<username>\.config\kathara.conf

2. Modify the last_checked value with a very large timestamp. For example:

Original value:

"last_checked": 1757089005.3314793

Modified value:

"last_checked": 9757089005.3314793

This prevents Kathará from attempting the release check for a very long time.

Hi,great thanks for this I have tested with a very large timestamp and it works without delay.
