As an instrument scientist I would like to be able to log data from my Anton Paar L-Dens 3300 Density meter within IBEX, like I do for other sample environment data

may be similar interface (or same if we're really lucky!) to https://github.com/ISISComputingGroup/EPICS-dma4500m - consider borrowing code from there or making generic enough to support both

Had a brief look at the interface with @GRyall , from the software end it looks like a very simple serial protocol which just continually sends some relatively easy-to-parse data in ascii format. Have added good first issue training to the ticket on that basis (from the software side). Only has about 6 distinct things it sends and nothing we can write to it.

From the hardware side it might need a custom cable and it looks like it's talking RS485 so needs a 485-capable moxa.

Doesn't look similar to dma4500m.

Following discussion with JW and with agreement of @KathrynBaker - I am adding this to this sprint.

The target is us having one device in use on OFFSPEC next cycle. Eventually there may be 4-8 of the devices on a beamline.

There is a manual page photo in the manuals directory on the share. The device and physical manual is currently with electronics support who are wiring it for us.

The device is next to Nigel and wired up and the manual on the shelf above.

Does not need to be polled - just sends the above by itself at a rate of approx 1/second.

Physical connection: via null modem and 9-way female moxa cable.
