Guition JC8048W550 off-color(s)

thx for adding the JC8048W550 device.

I'm able to flash some rc's for it and the web interface and everything else work fine, connecting to HomeAssistant no problems too

but:
there seems to be sth wrong with the colors
instead of cyan I see some sort of yellow - spooky: the "screenshot" menu shows the right colurs

the boot screen is already golden/yellowish instead of blueish

the same with an image: where it is blue in the original picture there's red on the tft

the hardware seems to be ok, tried to reflash the original firmware and it shows correct colors

tried v0.7.0.1_4838931, v0.7.0.1_495bc54 and 0.7.0-rc15_9840c77

It seems red and blue colors are reversed. Maybe try Invert Colors option in the Display Settings.

with "colors inverted" I now have white "plate" on red background
the messagebox stays white on yellow

fyi: bought a second one, tried the latest build guition-jc8048w50n_full_16MB_v0.7.0.1_ef1ea17.bin from the 6th of October

This has already been reported as a bug, but it seems no one cares. Even after my inquiry, I received no response as to whether anyone had even noticed it.

You clearly don't know me and I feel your frustration, but niche open-source projects can only survive with user-contribution and validated, tested commits.

Before getting all cocky, one should check whether the step-by-step compiling guide is still up-to-date or if it's become unusable due to copy-and-pasted version changes. I spent all day today without even getting close to my goal. I installed a fresh copy of Debian Trixie and followed the instructions exactly. No luck!

Hi all,

Quick final update from my side on the JC8048W550 red/blue swap:

The most likely fix is already in this thread — the pin-swap diff posted by @schabau a few days ago.
Because I don’t own this exact panel revision (and no longer buy panels I don’t personally use), I can’t test or merge it myself.

The good news is: GitHub CI builds a ready-to-flash .bin for every commit automatically.
So anyone who has this panel can test the fix in literally 10–15 minutes:

• fork the repo
• apply the 12-line pin swap
• push → download the fresh binary → flash

If it works, open a PR and I’ll merge immediately.
If nobody has time to do that quick test, this revision will unfortunately stay broken — same as a few other untested user-contributed configs already are.

That’s the reality of a one-person, zero-budget project with 30+ niche panels at this point.

Please keep sharing workarounds (like the Notepad++ regex trick) and test results here in this discussion.
I’ll still watch it, but I’m out of the loop for buying or debugging hardware I don’t own.

This patch works perfectly on my display.
I've now changed all the hex color codes in my configuration back to the correct values, and the display is now identical to the screenshots shown here: #37 (comment)

For me, the firmware is exactly right, and it should therefore also fix the display problem for @GarfieldMZ and @Tom-Jenkins-II.

Didn't notice this yesterday, can try it out later or tomorrow.
Had big plans for this special type of display because there's a nice design on Makerworld (for the xtouch-project) that I wanted to modify for my needs.

It might be worth clarifying whether the red/blue error has always been present in the OpenHasp firmware for the JC8048W550 and no one noticed, or whether there are multiple hardware versions of this display with different pin configurations.

Can confirm: colors are no longer off, very nice. Thanks a lot. Already printed the above mentioned case from Makerworld. With room for a battery, so it can be used carrying it around just like the PandaTouch. With self designed docking stations all over the house.

@schabau Ich denke nicht, dass es hilfreich wäre, da nach Ursachen zu forschen. Für mich wäre eine neue HW-Version auch die naheliegendste Erklärung. In meinen Augen ist das müßig...

To complete the discussion: the first bought one (the one from the first pictures) could also be flashed w/o a problem.
