How to export the real-time scanning data to a .mat file in MATLAB?

I just started learning slam and I am now able to display point clouds in real time on MATLAB. But I don't know how to save the scanning data in a certain period to a .mat file. I tried to export directly, but it doesn't work. Could anyone help me please?
