Just wondering if there's a maintainer still around. I'm happy to participate as I can. I see there are issues and PRs laying around. I'm looking at creating a Word plugin for exporting/importing critic markup. But if there's nobody around to update the docs, or the standard has just been abandoned (or superseded?), then I'll look elsewhere. Thanks!

I too would love to know the status of this project. I'm considering adding support for CriticMarkup in gollum but I'd like to know that the standard is still relevant.

I don't think I'd call it abandoned but as a plain text specification I consider it relatively complete. I do not currently have any new features planned. I also have not seen any branches or alternative specifications to point to.

For the various toolkits, I am not maintaining any of them but I will pull any changes that I can test. At the very least, if you implement a Word plugin (kudos to you), I'd happily reference your Github repo. That'd be a really impressive plugin and I'm sure folks would find it useful.

As for gollum, there are no syntax changes planned for Critic Markup (or necessary) but it's up to you if you think it's useful for your project.

I started on the Word plugin. Tracking changes works fine, but comments are more problematic. Word allows comments to be nested and even to overlap. But overlapping doesn't work with delimited markup languages like this. When I have some time, I'll put some energy into sorting out how to handle it.

As for nesting, the spec doesn't mention it explicitly. Can I assume that as long as the highlighting and comment tags are completely enclosed, you'd have no problem with that? I can submit a PR if you like.

As for gollum, we've gone ahead and implemented CriticMarkup support, which will be available with the next major release.
