Clearing only the subject or clip

Is it possible to remove only one side of the clipping equation, either the subject or the clip?

I have a situation where the subject data is rather complex and therefore expensive time wise to load. Clipping of this shape occurs multiple times using different clip shapes depending on data conditions. It would be really handy if there was a method to remove just the clip while leaving the subject alone and vice-versa. Is this something that could be considered for a future release?
