Does not start from MO2 in the bottle, where I have .NET 8 + 9 installed to run Synthethis. Just "prepare VFS" and exit. Cannot install 4.8 as "already installed".

Running standalone outside proton/MO2 using system wine works. Window pops, list archive, but does not extract. It dumps stack in report than:

Any ideas how to make it work ? Note, this is not direct run on Linux, but rather Linux -> "Windows emulation" -> native MS .NET ->program.

@alexzk1 Hey. Unfortunately I don't know anything about this. Seems like the error comes from the lz4 library I'm using (IonKiwi.lz4.net), but don't know more than that.

You say you've .NET 8 + 9 installed, but this runs on .NET Framework 4.8. Maybe that's something to look into.

sorry a bit late for your problem, you probably just used a different extractor tool by now, but anyway...

there are a couple gotchas! in BSAB running outside a Windows environment, Alexx doesn't do anything to accommodate anything... the reason "Running standalone outside proton/MO2 using system wine works. Window pops, list archive, but does not extract." but it's more complicated than that.

you fired it up in a system default wine bottle without .net, and yes it'll run anyway, you can even open the .bsas and see contents and sizes, it just won't extract as you're discovered, you get 100% extraction errors cause, gasp, no needed level of .net support for that section of the code...

HOWEVER this breaks it entirely, and permanently. you can fire it up in that wine bottle and any others without .net, but as soon as you do fire it up with some wineprefix or proton pfx with dotnet48 or above, it immediately exits with a pathing issue, for example:
wine: could not open working directory L"unix\\mnt\\GAMESSD\\SteamLibrary\\steamapps\\common\\Skyrim Special Edition\\BSAbrowser\\", starting in the Windows directory.

but you're probably not seeing this launching from inside MO2 as you have no console, right?

it's because he's using System.Configuration.UserSettingsGroup for path history, it's not stored in the BSA Browser.exe.config, so it's creating a user.config in his AppName path in your profile... and, if you have system account passthru enabled (it is by default), so that no matter the WINEPREFIX you can reach via symlinking, /drive_c/users/alexzk1/AppData/... it will persist across every attempt.

so go whack %APPDATA%\Local\Alexander Ellingsen\BSA Browser_Url_(64-bit hex)\1.17.0.0\user.config and it will probably start working again, launched under your MO2 VFS instance.

maybe this will help Alexx look into being more accommodating to non-Windows people, and maybe this particular one could be preemptively dealt with via a .net support check before running, not assuming, but since all modern Windows installs will have it, he didn't bother. it's a safe assumption on Windows, after all.

(maybe we can beg an app name change to BSABrowser.exe or BSA_Browser.exe or something without a space so SteamOS linux OSX etc users won't have to double-quote encapsulate or backslash escape.) 🔨

1 - Install .NET SDK (for example with the command:
sudo apt install dotnet-sdk-8.0

(or by following the official .NET documentation).
2 - Clone the deposit:
git clone https://github.com/N3oRay/BSA_Browser.git
3 - Access the main project file (for according to the version to be compiled).
cd "BSA Browser CLI"
4 - Launch the compilation with:
dotnet build
5 - Publish:
dotnet publish

Currently, only "BSA Browser CLI" works on Linux via the command line.

I am currently working on "BSA Browser" to have a multi-Platfrom project.

FYI: I'm migrating the project to GTKSharp for a multi-platform compilation. "BSA Browser CLI" works on Linux via the command line.

I still have a few bugs to fix.

I'm no DotNet expert. But I hope I can do it :)
