Description
🚀 The feature
Description:
The Monumento app currently lacks essential accessibility features, which limits its usability for users with disabilities, particularly those with visual impairments. This issue creates a barrier to accessing the app's content and functionality for a significant portion of our potential user base.
Feature Description:
Implement a text-to-speech (TTS) feature that allows users to listen to landmark descriptions and other textual content within the app. This feature will enable users with visual impairments or reading difficulties to access information without relying solely on visual input.
Technologies Required:
- Flutter: For cross-platform app development.
- flutter_tts Package: For text-to-speech functionality.
Motivation, pitch
Motivation and Pitch: Implementing Text-to-Speech (TTS) for Landmark Descriptions to Enhance Accessibility
"The Monumento app aims to connect users with the world's most iconic landmarks through an engaging AR and social experience. However, a significant portion of our potential user base, including individuals with visual impairments or reading difficulties, are currently unable to fully access and enjoy the app's content. This limitation stems from the app's lack of essential accessibility features, creating a barrier to information and interaction.
Problem:
Currently, landmark descriptions and other textual content within Monumento are presented solely in visual form. This presents a challenge for users who cannot easily read or process text. They are excluded from fully appreciating the historical and cultural context provided by the app.
Proposed Solution:
To address this accessibility gap, I propose implementing a text-to-speech (TTS) feature for landmark descriptions. This feature will allow users to listen to the textual content, enabling them to access information independently of visual input.
